ABOUT ME

Hi! My name is Jimmy Vega (aka JimO). I’m a Costa Rican artist and illustrator working in both digital and traditional media.

Over the last 10 years, I’ve been creating and selling hand-drawn artworks here in my country. Today, I’m expanding the ways I share my art with the world: I am selling original paintings, and also fine art prints worldwide.

My professional artistic journey began back in 2015, when I started a project called “Retratos Costa Rica“, working on watercolor portraits commissions. I also have worked since 2005 as a graphic designer, illustrator and 2D animator (in projects for brands such as Hummer, Godaddy, Google, Verizon, Amazon, Paris Hilton Hotels, among others); but eventually fine arts and drawing are becoming my true home. Since 2024, I’ve also been creating traditional painting with oils, after taking an enriching series of learning courses.

In my artwork, I am trying to explore and reflect topics about the Costa Rican indigenous legacy, and also about costumbrism and typical native elements of my country’s identity; on the other hand I like to embellish my works with magical realism and surreal scenes.
